I am an employment law and litigation attorney. I counsel businesses with employees in Alabama on their obligations and rights under a wide variety of employment laws, including the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act, and many others. I defend businesses against administrative charges and lawsuits arising under these laws, as well. I also defend businesses against premises liability claims and other general liability claims, and I offer services as outside general counsel for businesses.
How We Got Started
First, I have an affinity toward the fundamental concept that we are a nation of laws and not men. I personally think there are too many federal laws and regulations that unduly burden businesses and their operations, but the laws that exist must nevertheless be obeyed. In the employment law context, the myriad rules and regulations on this front confound many businesses, even those who have internal HR and Legal departments. I want to help businesses operating in Alabama successfully navigate these murky employment law waters.
Our Ideal Customer
My ideal customers include businesses with 15-20 or more employees operating in Alabama, as that is the threshold for application of several of the federal employment laws (FMLA is 50+ employees). If you have any employment law-related questions, I welcome your call or email.

Are you confused by whether a worker is an employee or an independent contractor?

If so, I would love the opportunity to discuss this concern with you. Worker misclassification is high on the radar of the IRS, the U.S. Dept. of Labor, and the EEOC, and missteps here can be costly - even with the new priorities being established by the Trump administration.
