Hey Danielle. I don't do graphic design a lot but when I do, I ask for $40-$45/hour. I have 2 friends who also do this and their rate is around the same. I know another guy who has been doing this for 10+ years and he demands $75/hour. Hope that helps!

Robert, I'm in Connecticut and I work with 2 Clients up in Mass near Salem. I'd be glad to help. I do a lot of management, maintenance and migration. (My specialty.) I actually like the idea of doing a page-to-page migration. I can give you an hourly rate and move you to something that would be...

I actually like the idea of doing a page-to-page migration. I can give you an hourly rate and move you to something that would be mobile-friendly and easy to update. I've been doing this for 10+ years. We can take 1 page at a time and go on your schedule. Let me know. I'm here.

I don't think someone has to necessarily know your store. But I do think someone needs to know ECommerce and Web Development "inside and out." I also think they need to be able to link those skills with exactly what you're looking for.

As a 10+ year Freelancer and Virtual Web Assistant, I find it important to have a really good consultation before hiring someone. You want to express your exact needs and goals, and make sure this is something they can complete for you. During a consult, I would take 10-15 minutes explaining exactly what your brand is, the goals you want to meet, and the types of products you are trying to sell. If you have examples of sites you love, send those over too. Tell them the colors you want to use. Let them know if you want to utilize a specific payment gateway. Leaving all of this out, before actually hiring someone, is a huge mistake.
Some freelancers will be great fits for your needs. Others won't be. You'll definitely want to focus on finding someone who has years of experience with a proven track record and portfolio. (And maybe even a team behind them, in case they run into any problems.)
Another key fact I've learned is that communication is key. You'll absolutely want an easy way for getting info to your freelancer, especially if they are working remotely. (Product photos, info, pricing, etc.) Otherwise you run into lots of wasted time going back and forth.
I've given up on using online sites like freelancer.com. I've had more negative experiences than positive. You can get cheaper rates over there but the quality of work isn't too good. I've had numerous freelancers make errors that I've had to go in and fix. I've also had sites built in foreign code that I've never seen before. It's not a good place to hire someone.
I've found it much easier to connect & team up with others in my area who offer similar services with quality.
