Get involved. Sponsoring local kids sports teams is usually an inexpensive and effective way to keep your name in front of people. Also, run some specials on Groupon for some of your services. The more people talk about you via social media, the more exposure you get as well and it is free. Create your shop a facebook page and have giveaways and contests for people who rate, share, check in and tag your page.
You need more information before undertaking this project. Are your services really needed. If the area is saturated for the market you will closed before you start. What can you offer the others do not. Never compromise price. Be realistic on what is will cost to operate and price accordingly. And last always over deliver.
Take care of your customers. Word will spread. Dig in to the community- in smaller markets, I'd suggest things like the Rotary club and / or Chamber of commerce. Most of all, bring your "A" game and if the other shops have become too comfy with customers that expect less because they're used getting less, sooner or later they's come your way when they hear how well you treated their friend or co-worker. Do little things at no charge. That can come off as a really big deal if they've not been treated like a valued customer in the past. Best of luck & success to you!
Quality work, good reputation, perseverance and starve for the first 20 years......... If you just outlive all the old guys you get there customers. LOL
Word of mouth. Hide rocks with cars and free inspection around the local parks with your # on it. Offer PD, teacher, veteran specails.
hire good people. This bussiness is a people bussiness
First off, social media is the new way to go. Have a social page set up by someone that has been doing it a while, as this will bring your name to the 'lime-light' so-to-speak.
Second, what services do you offer? Do you have your own tow trucks? Do you contract with a tow company if you don't have your own units? If so, offer discounts for those towed into your shop. It really does go a long way.
Also remember- less is more! If you try to do 'sponsored' ads through sites like FaceBook, you will overload the public with your name, in which it will lower business numbers...
After nearly 50 years we find that most new customers come from social media. Take time to learn how to promote your services on that media then do your best work. If they came to you based on statements you make online they will go back online to report how well you did and it snowballs from there. After you have done good work for a period of time you will have repeat customers and referrals. Remember work you do not do well will also be reported.
