3 Reasons Why The Summer Is The Best Time To Build A Business Network

By Rebecca Sargeant · Posted on Thursday, July 6, 2017 · Tagged in General Discussion

While Summer is a great time for sitting on the beach, lounging by the pool, being active outside, and entertaining with backyard BBQ's , summer is also the perfect season for an activity you probably haven't considered....networking!

Here's why the summertime is the perfect time to stretch your legs and meet your neighbors.

1) Sunshine= Happiness

The summer sunshine makes everyone feel happier! With longer days and more time to enjoy ourselves, we all put a positive spin on things. Just for that reason, summer is perfect time to meet new people for the first time. Instead of digging the conversation out of the bad weather hole, you can now cheerfully guide conversation towards building the future.

Workplaces are generally more relaxed in the summer. This can translates into "get out of the office Fridays." If you've been trying to book a networking meeting with someone and it hasn't worked in the past, today may be the day that they will jump at the chance to meet you. Simply drop them a note that you'll be at the local patio Friday and you would like to network over coffee at 2:30pm. Guaranteed they will be there early!

3) Anywhere, and Everywhere

Networking happens all summer long in the craziest places. Standing in line for the CN tower, you meet the CEO of a Fortune 100 company. Tripping over a stroller at the park, you meet the IT Director of a cool new start-up. Biking along the waterfront, you meet the V.P of Sales you have been trying to get a meeting with. All of these and more have happened to me during the summer. Keep your eyes and ears open to the people around you. You will be amazed that you don't have to go far to network with just the right people.

Summer is about keeping things simple and having fun. So, do just that. Get out there, meet new people and NETWORK every FRIDAY this summer.

I love this article as these are the tips of the trade. People are everywere. Thinking out side the box sets you aside from the rest and cuts the competition. Great article!

Every day can be a networking day though - the key to networking is always, "How can I help you?" With that in mind, almost everyone is open to meeting with you so you can determine who you know that might be able to help them, what they do so you can... and so on.

I like the idea of choosing Friday. I usually choose Thursday if for no other reason other than astrological, it is the day of Jupiter which means expansion.
