My background is in commission sales, I made my living for many years this way. Now I have chosen to let my fingers do the walking instead of my feet, and now I prospect for other businesses.

Getting people on the lot to look at cars is the easy part... All advertising done properly with the right targeted message will bring you prospects. The biggest issue I run into is the sales people.. Great sales people are 2%er's, that is about how many can actually close deals on a consistent basis. Are you a 2%er?

Car lots are no different. Far to often it is not the... (more)

Thank you for not taking it personally, The message is for all sales people.

It it is a lack of prospects to talk to, That I can fix, it is what I do.

When I interview prospective clients, I like to run them thru a mock sales close. There is no point if sending leads if they just get burned.. Sending leads to a poor closer is just destined for the relationship to end badly.

What I cannot do is make a a poor closer good, but I can make a good closer a lot of money by lining up qualified prospects for them to close.

1) Every sale we give the customers a handful of our business cards and tell them how they could payoff the car by referring 2-3 clients a month. We pay $200 a referral. Since I specifically sell to the subprime market those clients are cash strapped more than half the time. We do almost a 72% repeat and referral business.

2) Send your clients a birthday card or email show that you care.

3) Make sure that the deals you put together are affordable for the customers. In the long run, they will appreciate you and be loyal. I have a repeat customer who has gotten... (more)

Thanks everyone for the time and ideas you have given me. More heads than one is always better. Sometime even the small stuff, the normal gets lost in the shuffle and it's good to gather new and old ideas. Again appreciate all the feed back.

As a former car salesman I would look at the cars for sale ads in the paper and today on Craigslist. If it's a car you can resell, call them and have them bring it in for an offer. While they are there waiting for your answer have them walk the lot. 70% of the time they will buy a car from you using theirs as a trade.
