I'm a landscaper and i hooked up with a pest control company that did do mowing etc. We sent referrals to each other... it may be one sided depending on size of company's so you may want to think about cost of referals too..

Cross promotion is a very effective way to show increases in all the critical metrics for your business. It's a pity that more businesses don't employ it as it can be highly beneficial for both the business and consumer.

Proximity marketing while not even close to being main stream "may" prove to be an effective marketing strategy while it's use is limited. Once it reaches critical mass, like most other techie types of marketing that rely heavily on 'interruption marketing", when everyone in town is playing the GEO game and the novelty wears off, they will become an annoyance to the consumer and suddenly the beacons will go silent as they continue to ping devices that refuse to pass their signals.

Congratulations that you're getting busier!!! To get more, are you letting your customers know you appreciate them? If they get something as simple as a Thank You card they'll be more inclined to think of you and send you more referrals. Top of mind awareness. It sounds like word of mouth is working for you, so I would embrace that and continue with it.

With a smile,

Gail

I think you are right about "word of mouth" and he should continue and embrace it but as a sustainable, long term business model, I don't recommend it.

I have a few local businesses that I've approached and their sentiment is "we don't need any advertsing or marketing, we do good with word of mouth".

That's all fine a good but mouths get tired of opening, mouths move on to other concerns in life and mouths even move out of town where they will do you little to no good.

It's quaint notion if you live in the nineteen-sixty's world of sheriff Taylor and Barney Fife... (more)
