For a damaged relationship, I would meet in person. Schedule a coffee and meet face to face. Discuss what happened, own up to whatever fault your company should take, and change the direction for going forward.

The basic answer is,

How did your departure effect the company and its business?

How much time has it been since you left?

Did there business grow or decline after you left?

Are you currently in competition with that business or in the same field of endeavor?

What networking possibilities can you use to approach them in a mild manner?

Offer to explain your position in the matter.
