By Salil Sethi · Posted on Thursday, May 18, 2017 · Tagged in Online Marketing

Small Business Owners - How much time and energy do you spend on promoting your business on social media?

Do you use any tools, or have you considered tools that would save you time scheduling and posting updates to social media?

Great question! I feel that many business owners under estimate how much time is spent on social media management and marketing, especially if done the right way. So they end up not posting/engaging enough, which reduces the impact of what they have done and create ineffective ads, wasting money. Enter people like me―social media managers and strategists. We take this hassle off your hands and turn social media around into meaningful marketing strategies!

There are a number of schedulers that help, some of which are Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social,... (more)

Thansk Natalie. Two follow ups:

1. From your experience working with small businesses, do you know how much time do savvy small businesses spend per week managing social media

2. Would be curious to know the source of your facebook prioritization grapevine ;)

I agree with Natalie. It seems that Facebook wants you to only use Facebook as a means of posting, and they are not too fond of outside videos either which would include YouTube.

Natalie is correct. I specialize in Facebook marketing and the scheduling systems are frowned upon when it comes to Facebook.

As for the time spent, there is no true magic amount of time. It's about providing great content for your followers and engaging with them - it's social marketing.

For me, what I'm seeing in the marketplace is a call for connection. Now you can get a third party scheduler - yes FB does frown upon those and also any shared videos that are outside of FB (you're better off sharing videos you see within FB - the "FB bots" love this), but there's also a quality over quantity factor that I feel many small biz owners aren't utilizing.

What's really getting people interested in your products, how are you connecting with them on FB, is posting an ad, a blog, an inspirational image really motivating them to click on (read more)... (more)

I dropped Facebook for my business. I had it running for 4 years, never got a referral or booking from it. I am on Linked in, I received a couple inquiries but no bookings. New Clients say they find me on Google or word of mouth. I am also on 93.5 FM (Ft. Collins radio station), Tuesday 8 - 8:10 am sponsoring the pet of the week.

Next time your on Social Media for a non business reason think about how you use it.....

Social Media is like a party where everyone is drinking and snorting coke... What are the odds these people are in buying mode other than more coke?

That basically sums up Social Media....

Unlike Google were people are actively searching how to solve a problem, Social Media is a lot like crack , as it is an escape from 'real life' people hang there to socialize, watch funny cat video's and be entertained.. Their mind is not in a buying mode, it is in escape mode.

I use a tool called "BleuPage Pro". It allows me to post to multiple platforms at once, as well as multiple fan pages. Creating posts and adding images can take a huge amount of time. And if you post offers it can be an even more daunting task.

Natalie is right on topic: using an agency can cut that time (and effort) down dramatically, but many businesses may no choose to pay someone to manage their social accounts because they assume it cost more. But, it is worth the time and money to have someone savvy performing those tasks.

there are several that work very well, I recommend Aweber for your email marketing, Leadpages for your sales funnel. As far as how much time should you spend, 20 mins a day, I do 3-5 posts per day and each take me 3-5 mins.

Hope this was helpful

xoxo Haley
