Macs use PC hardware now. There is only an illusion of propriety in that the os is still unix based. From business standpoint, they are the most expensive to purchase and the most expensive to support of all computer choices in the market. If you have any kind of common sense in your IT budget and you are dealing with equipping larger user groups, pc's are a no-brainer. You can supply all critical functions to all users and not give your client or your company a financial coronary. I can build a PC twice as powerful (and will last longer) than a Mac Pro for... We have a Repair Center in North Miami Beach, FL & we work on both MAC & PC. I agree with you about Macs using PC Hardware and unfortunately Apple is making it harder & harder for anyone other than Apple to perform these repairs.
