Hi, Jerry.

Could you give an example of one? I'm wondering if our members might perhaps use them, but not call them the same thing.

(personally, I'm not familiar with the term at all, but might know something 'within that ecosystem', so to speak.)

I operate a local barter exchange. There are many barter exchanges across the country. If you are in Jersey check us out! I also give more info about barter exchanges in my general reply to this question.

In the last 20 years I have participated in several with mixed results.

They can work well if every barter member is honest, charges fair market value and if the barter exchange owners run the exchange like a real business.

My experience has been that many members see a barter exchange as a way to dump obsolete equipment at near new retail prices or where services are sold for far higher prices than they would charge normally.

Not everyone does this, but this is the mentality of many business owners.

Business exchanges are generally not governed by state or... (more)

Our company belongs to a local barter exchange in the Chicago Metropolitan area. And, our marketing division serves as an independent sales consultant for that exchange. That being said, we trade 5 figures worth of business annually; and, we trade out for medical care, automotive repairs, promotional goods, Christmas presents, customer loyalty incentives, dry cleaning, concert tickets, legal services, salon services, accounting services and restaurant vouchers...just to name a few items that we can "purchase" through the barter exchange. In fact, we were even... (more)

I've used barter for many years and was once an agent for a barter exchange. Sadly, that barter exchange screwed my clients so I left.

I tried a few other barter exchanges, but most were poorly done.

Recently I joined Simbi - an online barter exchange.

Simbi is the best barter exchange I have ever used. I have completed several exchanges. You can do one-on-one exchanges or exchange for Simbi points that you can then use with most other member's offerings.

Simbi has an excellent community vibe and I find it is working quite well for me.

I own a DNA specific skin care company and we sell to high end salons by private label. I joined a barter network 7 years ago. Bob Prentice is a national motivational speaker and we felt the public would appreciate learning about Trade Dollars and how to expand your business. We started Bartertown Radio a live radio show every Saturday morning and had Barter Owners Members , IRTA President and Nate President on our show. In additiona we invited many authors about Barter Books on the show. I loved it and as a result began joining over 10 Trade Exchanges. This... (more)
