You question of which cloud sharing option do we recommend does not provide enough detail. What kind of files are you sharing? Do you plan to use the cloud storage as a backup?


Couple things to keep in mind:

1) CLOUD simply means someone else's server.

2) I recommend my clients NEVER store anything on a cloud they would not post to their web page. Pictures and some office documents (But not all).... ok.

What I would NOT post to the cloud: Financials, passwords, anything that would cause a problem if it were copied by a hacker.

I have a time keeping program called OfficeTime and I share its database with all of my devices from Dropbox. Not sure it's a true database though.

Gene - the way Dropbox syncs and shares, you run into problems when multiple users make changes to the database at the same time. You will end up with multiple copies of the database, each containing the users unique changes. If you are the sole user of the database and close it after each use... that may work. The OP described an office setting where I assumed there would be multiple users working the same database at one time. - Bill

Bill makes some great points, but I do disagree on a couple of points. I preach G Suite (formerly Google Apps for work).

1) They are one of the industry leaders in online (cloud) software as a service.

2) They are trusted by enterprise level fortune 500 Companies like Whirlpool, Asics, HP, salesforce, etc...

3) Equipped with high security standards such as HIPPA (United States legislation that provides data privacy and security provisions for safeguarding medical information), ISO 27001 and 27018 and you will always own your own Data

It completely depends on how you plan to access your data and what type of data it is. Cloud storage is designed for just that - storage. There are ways and plans that allow shared access if desired, just be wary of what's kept there. Database applications should never be accessed via these methods (ie quickbooks) - risk of corruption is great and speed is impacted dramatically. There are quite a few devices that allow you to utilize the same features, but you have the device on your premises. I would research those options as well and compare prior to making... (more)

I agree with Bill - depends on what your using it for. Do you need collaboration? Do you need version history?

I've had good success with OneDrive for Business - much better than it used to be and it offers some version security; users can open as read-only if the file is in use.

Dropbox is good for sharing files.
