Office 365 can be very useful, even for a sole practitioner who wants to access their files at home or on the go.  Just be sure to use a backup service designed for Office 365 or Google G-Suite as data loss is still possible using these services. We recommend Datto's Saas Protection service.     (more) Office 365 can be very useful, even for a sole practitioner who wants to access their files at home or on the go.  Just be sure to use a backup service designed for Office 365 or Google G-Suite as data loss is still possible using these services. (more) Ransomware is now one of the fastest growing classes of malicious software. Fortunately our approach at CPI Networks has been very successful and we have not had a client on our service plan experience a Ransomware event in over 5 years.  To help protect our clients from Ransomware attacks, we developed a multifaceted and affordable protection strategy to protect their small businesses.  Our services recommend a proper managed antivirus solution on all computers on the network, a business class email with advanced virus scanning enabled, a Unified Security Gateway firewall with Content Filtering that monitors all internet activity and prevents access to known malicious websites (this prevents infections when employees click on a malicious link in their email), a Ransomware monitoring agent on computers (to monitor for ransomware type behaviour and shut it down when detected) and ultimately a Cloud backup as there is no 100% guaranteed protection against these attacks and the Cloud backup may be needed.

(more) At CPI Networks, we support and protect our business customers from Ransomware using a multi layered security approach. We recommend our customers use Office 365 for their email which minimizes the security threats that actually get delivered. We provide and monitor an Anti-virus software client as well as CryptoPrevent software on the desktops and servers which will watch for ransomware behaviour and shut it down. A Unified Security Gateway Firewall prevents most malicious software and Ransomware from being downloaded to the business network should the previous items I mentioned fail to identify and prevent the attack. The final and most important factor to protect against these threats is a daily offsite cloud backup. (Some new forms of Ransomware will destroy local backups so they must be offsite.) If an attack is successful and the files are  encrypted, there is no other choice but to restore from the backups.
