The Biome Project provides personalized yoga instruction, nutritional therapy, and access to resources to help individuals create a healthy internal and external environment.

The Biome Project also offers consulting services in health research reporting and identifying research relevant to clinical practice, with the vision of improving patient health outcomes.

Melissa Barber, the owner, carries a Master of Science (MSc) in integrative medicine research and her areas of focus are disease prevention, integrative medicine, and eliminating health disparities. She has worked in health research for over 10 years – from basic science to epidemiology to practice-based research. Her research homes have included the National Institutes of Health, Oregon Health & Science University, the VA Medical Center, the Integrative Medicine Institute, and the National University of Natural Medicine. She received her undergraduate degrees in Biology, Spanish, and a minor in Chemistry. She studied yoga at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Massachusetts and Rishikesh YogPeeth in India and is an Experienced 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500) with over 2,000 hours of teaching experience. Her interest in yoga therapy has brought her to different workshops and an advanced study in anatomy, physiology, body mechanics, and ergonomics. Melissa has her nutritional therapy practitioner (NTP) certification from the Nutritional Therapy Association and has additional training in addressing food allergies, sensitivities, and intolerances and personalizing diets. She served as a Peace Corps Health Volunteer in Perú and has worked as a Clinic Coordinator and Medical Interpreter in different health centers locally and internationally.
