Award winning artist Gary Hoffmann continues the great lineage of Boston painters, having trained with the late R. H. Ives Gammell, who himself studied with such greats as Edmund Tarbell and Joseph DeCamp. The fundamentals of Gary’s work, like all the traditional masters before him, come from patience, a great understanding of color and light and rigid attention to detail and draftsmanship. His wonderful interiors and portraits, with their rich colors, tangible atmosphere and complex compositions that hint at a greater narrative, evoke the spirit of John Singer Sargent and Diego Velázquez. His plein-air landscapes, with their dancing, bravura brush-work, show off his mastery of light and color and conjure the impressionist works of Frank Weston Benson and Childe Hassam. Hoffmann’s still-life paintings showcase a range of delicate texture and light while immortalizing and giving dimension to stunning and perishable subjects. Please join us as we celebrate 3 decades of Gary's paintings.
