Hi Andrea, I'm finding this can go either way. Because I will always be an educator who loved teaching Reading-LA, I have a natural tendency to sound academic. Over the last year in the business sector (been here for 20 months), I've found speaking and writing in a less formal manner allows others to feel more at ease. It also makes me more relatable. If I'm connecting with a fellow veteran educator, while we can connect in that formal space, we also appreciate not being there. My take away is ... just relax and let folks see who you are.
