In 1949 two young beekeepers, Howard and Vincent Bryans, wanted to start a beekeeping business of their own so they purchased 200 hives from Warren Munro and set up an apiaries in St. Mary’s, Ontario. The three beekeepers maintained a good business relationship and the Bryans brothers would often help Warren out on occasion if he needed an extra hand.
Warren Munro lead the day to day operation of Munro Apiaries until a car accident in 1956 claimed his life. Howard Bryans stepped in and helped Mrs. Munro run the company after Warren passed, and in 1958 Howard and Mavis Bryans purchased Munro Apiaries. At the time of the purchase, Munro Apiaries had some large contracts in place with hospitals in Canada and in England, and the name Bryans’ Apiaries was already used in Chatsworth Ontario, so the decision was made to leave the company name alone.
Howard and Mavis, along with their sons Davis and John, continued to grow the company and became leaders in the beekeeping industry. Davis and John took over the company in 1989 and changed the name to Munro Honey.
An interesting fact; In 2013 Vincent Bryans was ready to retire so Davis and John purchased Uncle Vince’s bees and equipment. So those 200 hives that Warren sold in 1949 have returned to Munro Honey’s care.
Today with the help of their families and dedicated staff, Munro Honey has become one of the largest packer, producer and exporters of honey in Ontario

Munro Apiaries was started in 1914 when Mr. Warren Munro captured his first swarm of bees in Napier, Ontario. When he left to serve in WW1 he had some friends and family look after his bees while he was gone. After the war he returned home to his bees and spent some time in Vineland, Ontario studying beekeeping. In 1923 he expanded his business and built his first honey house in Alvinston.
