I am an architect, but my issues in business development are the same as a contractor. 1) I vet the potential client over a phone call; 2) if the project seems like a possibility, I schedule a free one hour consultation, either on site or by video. 3) If the potential client seems viable but the project is not in our wheelhouse, I refer them to another architect. 4) If a General Contractor or Subcontractor that we work with regularly refers a client, I will automatically meet with them in order to respect the ongoing business relationship.
