First official year in and Yes I still love this crazy-sometimes complete unknown of being a small business but I have a group of professionals who do what I do & are helping me with the nuts & bolts mentoring me each step of the way. When I am "working" creating, solving problems looking through thousands of options to find the one that works because it just fits- that deep knowledge of it feels right- I get to have every creative cell in my body light up with excitement as I create designs that are like a mystery to be solved, a life to be impacted, a home to be made new! My title is designer, I work in the interior design field now after 25 years creating in the wedding world on the side of being the full time mom career I have loved the most, and I wanted to do the hard thing I kept telling my children to not be afraid of doing themselves- to reach- to fail- to learn- to grow!

I admired those that bit the bullet and toughed it out during Covid. My heart broke for those who put their all into the dream of running their own business only to lose it through no fault of their own. I admire that you dared to live the dream. Remember the many who were highly successful after many failures. If you chose to follow that dream again, you may be inches away from success sooner than you think! Shortly out of college I was a partner of a small but successful interior design business for 11 years back in 1990. I had the best two partners one could ever ask for and an excellent first-time business ownership experience. We were everything in the company: buyers, merchandisers, store operators, freight department, accounting department, cleaners, and much more. We loved what we did and we loved the ability to see the fruits of our labor of love. Because of pending out-of-state moves and medical issues we chose to close up shop and take care of personal needs. Since that time I worked in areas of remodeling, building, and development as well as furniture and flooring stores however, my love lies in entrepreneurship and so I threw my hat into the ring once again at a time that may or may not have been so smart (Covid). Regardless, here I am loving the world of interior design as a solo entrepreneur. The business, in some ways, changed (social media to name the big one) since the days of old. Thank goodness I enjoy researching and learning! For those of you who share your knowledge and expertise with those up-n-comers, I want to thank you for contributing to the growth and success of small businesses of which I'm a part but also believe that it is part of the American way.
