I don't know a percentage. The key for me is consistency of the reviews. Many folks whine and complain, but when you see a consistent trend from different reviewers they seem credible. Being discerning and not swayed by an ocassional bad review or over the top outstanding reviews, with no details.

Number one is its last health dept rating. I usually peep into the kitchen. The dress and cleanliness of the wait staff is usually good gauge of what the kitchen looks like. Of course, the number of people eating there and ratings are good indications. I like places that focus on a specific...

Of course, the number of people eating there and ratings are good indications. I like places that focus on a specific cuisine. A wide and varied menu without high volume is almost a sure bet of food that is not fresh or already expired.

I'm more interested in competence and performance. Talking to someone who they recently done work for is best. I have found many contractors relying on a long ago reputation that is no longer valid. Sometimes licensed contractors leave the job to minimally qualified employees. I would want to know which employees are doing the work and talk with them. Its easy to verify licensing and insurance. Competence and performance is a little harder.

It depends on the experience level of the installer and what your local codes allow. A tester light at least and I prefer a multimeter. Making sure the power to that circuit is off and stays off is essential. Safety, safety, safety. Fiberglass or wood ladder,(metals can be a conductors to...

Making sure the power to that circuit is off and stays off is essential. Safety, safety, safety. Fiberglass or wood ladder,(metals can be a conductors to ground). Eye googles(wire being cut or stripped can wind up in your eye). I prefer a second person being available if I'm up on a ladder. Lastly competence and again experience. If you don't know what your doing, don't do it. Plenty of information resources available for DIY.

Many municipalities and states also post RFPs (Request for Proposals) in the local paper and/or have websites where they post. I have participated in the proposal evaluation process. Completeness and neatness count. If your response is not professional and they have no prior experience with you; they may assume your not reliable.
A uniform is good for identification and brand promotion. Competence, punctuality, cost are more important. I guess an analogy is if you wear a baseball uniform people think you are a player. If you never win the uniform loses its luster. At a minimum a name tag with a picture, and attire that...

If you never win the uniform loses its luster. At a minimum a name tag with a picture, and attire that meets customer expectations for your industry are a good baseline. Neat and clean, is always a plus.
I try to support Mom and Pop places. This is especially true when they have employees who know exactly what you need to do the job correctly. That expertise is worth the higher prices, plus it helps to keep a local business, that is closer to my home than Lowes or Home Depot in business.
