I come from a small town. The locally owned hardware store, the locally owned fabric store , the locally owned little clothing store.... you were able to get to know the people to make a connection beyond just an exchange of money and merchandise. The service was impeccable. The connection to the community was real. To this day I will shop locally owned, as the experience is always pleasant.
In My business we are service oriented. I like working with other service vendors and creating a mutual referral system. I try to give incentives that are both client and business related. For instance we offer free wedding cake delivery for mutual clients to reception venues we work closely with.

I respect the clients right to choose whomever they feel most comfortable with to provide the desired product or service. In the industry that I now sell in it is as simple as "Would you like to place your nonrefundable deposit down now or are you still looking at other options? I honestly just need a yes or no answer. If they want to continue looking I try and make sure there are no other questions or concerns they may have with our product or service.
Upon parting, a genuine door is left open for future questions or concerns that may come to mind.

It totally depends on how they reach out to us. if it is an e-mail then i assume that is how they would like to correspond. if a phone number is listed I will call and send a text.

As in any good communication it is more about listening than talking. I try and train my staff to ask specific questions when taking custom orders. It is vital that the sales staff be patient and listen. or in some cases advise the options according to the budget the client wants to adhere to....

It is by far one of the most challenging aspects of training. The sales staff is meeting with the customer. The order form has to communicate to the baker then decorator to create the product desired by our clients.
