I personally have hired and fired many techs over the past 30 years. I have found that the hands on guys have worked the best. My techs who went through school were book smart, but several could not translate that into effective work. Typically if I hired 10 out of tech school, maybe one or two...

My techs who went through school were book smart, but several could not translate that into effective work. Typically if I hired 10 out of tech school, maybe one or two made the cut. Sorry to say, but those with some hands on going into tech school always were better than those just going to school to learn.
My customers themselves. They have been my best referrals. Providing a quality service and under promising / over delivering is key.
