How We Got Started

In the 90's I took a career planning course this was an extensive testing Myer Briggs, COPES CAPS, true colours and much more. At the end of the course, the report I got back said I should be coaching. So I found a College in Vancouver (Rhodes College) and took their Life Skills Instructor Program. I graduated in 1998 with Honors and was asked to come back and teach all future coaches the Business Management Course. I did this for 2 1/2 years as I continued to grow my own coaching business Diamond Star Coaching Inc.

I invested a lot of time in networking at this time. I facilitated a BNI group, eWomen Networking group, Valley Women Networking group and then decided to launch my own networking group, Diamond Star Networking. This group filled up quickly and we did some really amazing events.

I became a Master Certified Business Coach about 2 - 3 years after graduating from Rhodes College. I was listed as one of Vancouver's Most Influential Women In Business 2002, 2003 & 2004

Great question Claudia!                                                                                         The best career decision I ever made was to take a career planning course.  The course offered every kind of personality profiling test imaginable.  COPS, COPES, Myers Briggs, true... (more) Great question Claudia!                                                                                         The best career decision I ever made was to take a career planning course.  The course offered every kind of personality profiling test imaginable.  COPS, COPES, Myers Briggs, true colors and many more.  The end result revealed exactly what type of career I was particularly suited to work in.  This course then led me studying to become a Coach.  For those people who don't have the time to take off of work, there is a brilliant book I have used in my coaching practise for years called...              "Do What You Are" by Paul D. Tieger & Barbara Barron, some libraries do carry it.
How do you handle clients that won't pay you for your services?

Oh my goodness, I have seen so many businesses fall into this trap.  It can crush a business very quickly extending a service before the payment is actually received.  The saddest thing is that this situation alters the relationship very quickly because you become a debt collector instead of a... (more) Oh my goodness, I have seen so many businesses fall into this trap.  It can crush a business very quickly extending a service before the payment is actually received.  The saddest thing is that this situation alters the relationship very quickly because you become a debt collector instead of a great service provider.  Perhaps making a shift in the payment plan can make a big difference or even solve this entirely.   
Is it appropriate to post fun or silly videos to my business's social media platforms? Any success stories or failures to share?

My opinion is that sometimes a "related" funny video can be such an incredible memory hook.  Case in point the Commercial I am thinking of is the Ikea commercial that our family repeats often when getting a bargain is "Start The Car".   For those that may not have seen this commercial: a lady... (more) My opinion is that sometimes a "related" funny video can be such an incredible memory hook.  Case in point the Commercial I am thinking of is the Ikea commercial that our family repeats often when getting a bargain is "Start The Car".   For those that may not have seen this commercial: a lady goes shopping and gets to the cash register saying nothing when she is surprised at her terrific savings - until she quickly walk/runs and gets into the car where she tells her husband to "Start The Car, Start The Car, whooooo" and they take off before the store can realize how much money she saved.  Boom, funny, relatable and memorable. I also know that stories have been used in public speaking for years sometimes with video and sometimes not.  They use stories because it's relatable and often connects us as human.  So my vote is if it's used appropriately and its very relatable I think it could be very powerful!
