The meek shall inherit the earth. I don't believe in fierce, cutthroat competition. It is an evil that will consume the people in our country. There are people that need to run their own races and collaborate as family, not as enemies. I think collaboration with like minded people can give us the cohesiveness we need. When someone criticizes us we must turn the other cheek until the master gives us the words to reply. We must always be open to guidance from our personal connection with faith. As an actor, my first role was first thief on the cross. It was in "The Passion Play" always put on around Easter. I'm not a practicing denomination, I consider myself a mystic and Christian.
I consider success not being competitive with friends, not being jealous or wishing them failure. If a friend has success I should be happy for that person. Also, there are no boundaries as to where an actor is from. Many think, "what's he or she doing here, this is my place or city." Some can't...

I consider success not being competitive with friends, not being jealous or wishing them failure. If a friend has success I should be happy for that person. Also, there are no boundaries as to where an actor is from. Many think, "what's he or she doing here, this is my place or city." Some can't figure out why someone might travel from far away to become an actor or director. No matter where anyone is from, there are no age limits or specific geographic locations, sexuality, approaches to acting or number of shows acted in should make people more or less qualified. Acting is for everyone of all ages and races, sexes or geographic locations. When the theater was brought to the lower east side by the Yiddish, it became a way to familiarize the various peoples with that culture. Community, understanding, friendship and a real cohesive process took place. Everyone got to know each other, what part of Europe they were from and what the culture was like. The theater was a form of communication, not competition. Yes, we still have competition but we should be helping each other, now trying to ruin another's reputation or career. Any form of backbiting, gossip and ridicule just has no place in American or World theater. Keep the faith in th ese values and may theater and the arts live eternally. Joey Leone
