Making the choices from year to year on effective advertising is a challenge. Ad dollars are a large component of marketing. Having a clear strategy and making the best, informed decisions about where those dollars go is important. Word of mouth costs very little to nothing and for our "business", a community theatre, it is very effective. We are trying to improve our reach to the 30-50 crowd and digital is the way to go.

Our chamber has other networking and referral opportunities and we try to attend whenever possible.

We are a community theater and we donate individual tickets or season tickets to causes that are championed by one of our board members or perhaps a regular Patron. Our Teen Troupe not only produces a play and musical each year, they also volunteer with local area organizations for projects that need help. They perform at community events, do Christmas caroling, and serve at our annual fundraiser. They are very visible in our community because of this. Most large funders, like foundations, are reluctant to support a new organization until it is proven and has some kind of proof of longevity. Are you planning to build something or rent a space? I think you should be upfront about what the funds are for. If people believe they are giving to care... If people believe they are giving to care for people and don't know that you're using it to find a headquarters they might be disappointed and reluctant to donate.
