About Us

Overview

The Vegetarian Resource Center is a vegetarian research THINKTANK founded in 1993 by Maynard S. Clark.

The Vegetarian Resource Center identifies gaps in the resources needed for a historic shift away from current means of feeding the human species, towards a human species living on Earth without exploiting animals for food or for other purposes. Noting what is CURRENTLY missing from available (or even foreseeable) resources, the Vegetarian Resource Center helps incubate innovative vegetarian resource-building and vegetarian culture-building projects.

The goals of these projects include:
* Consulting with vegetarian groups about their individual and community futures
* Transform vegetarian life and outreach and
* Enhance the prospect that today's potential vegetarians will become vegetarian, or even vegan
* Resolve gaps or deficiencies or limits to the abolitionist vision of a human species living successfully, happily, healthfully, wisely without exploiting or harming animal life.

The slogan 'MAKING CONNECTIONS for PLANT-BASED (vegan) DIETS' synopsizes its mission.

While we are NOT the Vegetable Resource Center, we do 'aim to be optimally and relevantly informed' of what we need to know and understand.

Vegan and vegetarian volunteers work to find GAPS in the infrastructure that impede wholescale public shifts towards totally plant-based diets (not merely ideal factors - or perceptions and beliefs, but also material and knowledge gaps, such as lack of breathable nonleather shoes and gelatin in film and vehicle tires, lack of supportive social structure in some areas and well-developed educational curricula for schools. Then, we strategize towards the resolution of that infrastructure gap.

Of necessity, The Vegetarian Resource Center is volunteer intensive. Vegans and vegetarians may JOIN Friends of the Vegetarian Resource Center (typically financial or strategic backers) on LInkedIn, but the Vegetarian Resource Center network on LinkedIn is for the volunteers and financial contributors themselves (not merely vegetarians who like all things vegetarian (or all things vegan).

How We Got Started

Overview

The Vegetarian Resource Center is a vegetarian research THINKTANK founded in 1993 by Maynard S. Clark because the local vegetarian society (through which he and others were incubating other local vegetarian groups in 'satellite radius' from it) has ONE outspoken person who challenged 'the business wisdom' of 'creating competition for us.'

The challenged goals and operations were rolled up into VRC, which then envisioned 'making connections for plant-based diets' as a mission statement which 'could be considerably broadened and universalized, globalized.

Voila! Vegetarian Resource Center.

We help everyone veganize their events - in the context of risk reduction and overall safety. Reducing harms and risk externalities is core. (more) We help everyone veganize their events - in the context of risk reduction and overall safety. Reducing harms and risk externalities is core.

Too open-ended a question. The mission, the goal, and the globally improved outcomes is the rationale, not merely 'enhanced engagement' of strangers and casually interested outsiders.
