(more) There are about 2 billion websites - but only 400 million are active.  Out of all of the websites in the world, why would someone come to yours?  Know this - most people do not come to a website by accident. They either type in the domain name, because it is a known brand like Coca Cola.  They clicked on a paid ad that dovetails with their interest.  They click through an organic result that was relevant to their search query.   The closer your content and web address achieve that clarity, the better you'll do in a search query - which is about matching results to queries with relevance.  You pay to increase awareness of either your brand or for paid media.  SEO (search engine optimization) can be paid or not.  It is the best thing to drive traffic.   SEO is part content, part technical, and all about communicating.  Inbound marketing should clearly convey what you do. Internet surfers discover your content because it answers questions relevant to them.  You'll have to invest time in developing expertise to execute SEO well.  Alternatively, direct budget dollars towards an agency that produce results.  One freebie that will support your SEO is having a good Google My Business (GMB) listing which I explain here.   With any marketing approach, think ahead as to what constitutes "success".  Is it more traffic?  More page views?  More emails gathered?  More conversions?  More sales?  Be sure to track metrics and benchmark results.  Want some insights about some basic Google Analytics reports?  Take a look here. While I segregated these traffic drivers into three areas, they are not mutually exclusive and can often be co-dependent.  Here's one article that examines the interaction between search engine result page ranking and branding.  Good luck!

(more) Daily Google searches were 3.5 billion pre-pandemic and now top 6 billion.  A well executed pay-per-click or display advertising campaign will get you exposure and traffic.  The key words are "well executed" as that involves targeting the correct keywords, understanding the volume and competition, developing the right message, having a landing page that is optimized for conversion and being able to read the data to tweak or pivot when necessary. It also involves partnering with the type of publishers whose site traffic reflects an audience interested in your offering.  Long term, to rank organically has its advantages.  Typically, engagement and conversion is higher.  A high organic rank is an implicit endorsement by the search engines that your content is relevant to the search query.  The thing is, it could take months to earn that ranking and once again, execution is a pre-requisite.  The nice thing about display or PPC is that an advertiser can be at the top of the page within days, if not hours.   One could certainly watch videos, read blogs, and conduct smaller trials to begin with to refine advertising skills.  The likelihood is that a higher return on investment will be achieved through or with a marketer who is experienced and focused on her client's success.
