About Us

Healthy Living / Healthy Planet Lifestyle Magazine

We are a monthly lifestyle magazine focused on connecting businesses and professionals with our engaged readers who value a healthy lifestyle and healthy planet for people and pets. In each issue, readers find cutting-edge information on natural health, nutrition, fitness, personal growth, green living, sustainability, creative expression and the products and services that support a healthy lifestyle. We feature articles by national authors as well as from local leaders in these fields.

How We Got Started

Natural Awakenings Magazine seemed the natural progression of my path in life ... doing something empowering that really matters after many years in corporate structure. I found myself uncommitted in pretty much all areas of life in early 2010. This led me to the opportunity to start Natural Awakenings in the Greater Boston area in early 2011.

Most recently we've acquired the Rhode Island market and are excited about bridging the communities allowing for even more meaningful and beneficial connections.

Connecting our audience with solutions from businesses and practitioners that effect positive results in their lives is the most satisfying work I've ever done. The impact is sometimes immediate and profound. Grateful to serve in this capacity.

Some publishers have their rates published, others you'll have to reach out to in order to get their media kit. It's a grass roots effort so reach out to every publication you find. Get their distribution numbers, geographic coverage area, demographic, etc. If you have another local pub doing similar content, that will help to establish guidelines for what your market will bear. It's most important to make sure distribution is aligned with the rates. As you pick up new advertisers you will be able to increase distribution as well as coverage area. If I may offer a few more words of advice; be careful not to spread out too quickly. You want to be sure your publication is solid before branching out too far. All the best!

In the beginning, it was mostly cold calls and visiting to drop off a sample of what we were bringing to the area. I didn't have an actual product at the time as we needed those businesses in order to launch which we did, 9 months later. Looking back, seems I was more brave than I gave myself credit for at the time.
