Hi Richard. You are certainly correct about how people have devalued since digital photography took such a strong foot-hold. I have a firm price list for my specialty - family portraiture, but doing business portraits - so called "head shots" is different in that some people are looking for that one final image that they can use in print media and/or social networking. I have found most people are very comfortable with my minimum of $150 for the session including retouching their favorite image. Normally, and I should say that is most of the time, I can capture the image I think they are looking for in less than 30 minutes. Of course their those rare cases when people are overly critical of themselves and it takes a little longer to make them happy.
