I run a small buyer brokerage in real estate. We were closed, entirely, for almost three months. Since May, people who are able to buy houses are running into fierce competition. Sellers can't sell, if they don't have another place to live while it is being shown. So, there is less for sale, and still enough people able to buy. The uneven market makes it on buyers. And buyers are our clients. So, my staff are working twice as hard for the same commission.
I work exclusively with buyers. So, I am not celebrating the rising prices and high demand. However, in metro Boston, high demand and lower inventory is the reality.

I work exclusively with buyers. So, I am not celebrating the rising prices and high demand. However, in metro Boston, high demand and lower inventory is the reality.
High demand includes urban living areas. I disagree that people are "leaving metro areas". That is a huge overstatement. What I am seeing are buyers who want more space, inside and out, so that they can weather a pandemic or work from home for long stretches. Many are still choosing city life, just one with a home office space or a private outdoor space.
