Act 4 Recovery is an innovative, arts-based recovery initiative that uses the principles of acting, storytelling, and ensemble work to help individuals rebuild identity, confidence, and connection. Rooted in the belief that recovery thrives in community, our program offers a proactive, creative approach that empowers participants to take ownership of their next chapter.

Founded by John J. Fanelli, a lifelong theatrical director, educator, and program builder who is also in recovery. While receiving treatment in inpatient rehabilitation facilities, always with his guitar by his side, John began writing his first recovery-themed musical, Rehab: The Musical. The show offered a satirical yet heartfelt look at inpatient rehab through the lens of its lead character, Dr. Rehab. Featuring original songs like “You Only Get It When You Get It” and “Rehab Romance,” the musical struck a powerful chord with both clients and staff. What began as a creative outlet quickly became something much larger: a new, engaging way to approach recovery through storytelling, humor, music, and shared truth. The experience was transformative. Participants opened up. Conversations deepened. The community strengthened. Healing became active rather than passive. From that moment, Act 4 Recovery was born. Today, the program has expanded and continues to expand everyday.
