At least that is usually the lowest number I see requested from our local angel investment group. In reality, over 80 percent of successful new businesses are self-funded for much less -- often as little as $10,000. I’m convinced this also reduces risk.

Marketing people really are good at research.  Research your competitors.  Research your industry to find trends that you might be able to manipulate. This should be a long project. After considering how to brand the company and researching your industry, a clear and precise value proposition needs to be established.  Why are you different from everyone else.  If you can not come up with your own unique identity, you will only be able to sell your services on price. Word of mouth references are the best advertising you can use.  After each job, review your project and ask for a written reference.  Offer a slight discount before the sale for a written review of your work. These are just a few things a professional marketing company would do to market your company.

Look for a company that is flexible to work with your company and ideas.  There are a lot of "my way" consultants in the industry.  Some do fine, but most don't stay engaged for a long period of time.  Consider what you want from a marketing company.  Is it just social media content or channel... Who have you worked for in the past?  How many years have you been in business?  What are your strengths in marketing? Experience is a big key.  Many consultants have an array of partners they work with to allow multiple marketing tasks that are niche services all of which bring out a complete marketing plan.  Good luck and happy hunting.

No one is self employed.  I moved from being a W2 employee answering to management of a company to answering to my clients.  Each client is my employer and I respect their decisions.  The client is the life line to every "self-employed" person.  (more) No one is self employed.  I moved from being a W2 employee answering to management of a company to answering to my clients.  Each client is my employer and I respect their decisions.  The client is the life line to every "self-employed" person.
