My customers understand. In businesses where the customer is used to receiving terms, you would have to gently steer them to your way of doing business. This could range from a cash discount to priority service for quick payers, all the way to cutting off service for very slow payers. If you fully explain your policy, while being careful not to make your customer wrong, they will often comply, just to be helpful.
