The Oak Cliff Veggie Project
We’re a small group of compassionate people who care deeply about the health and well-being of southern Dallas. Through our food distribution program, garden and farm programs and our specialty education programs, we interact with our neighbors where they are helping to alleviate the issue of food apartheid that cripples southern Dallas County. We encourage people to engage at whatever level they feel comfortable helping our neighbors. And we partner with other grassroots organization who also, in their own way, help to fight the lack of grocery stores, farms and fresh produce in our neighborhoods. We look forward to sharing our experiences with new partners and invite everyone to donate or volunteer with us or anyone of our partners. Peace
10 years ago our family and church family began purchasing fresh produce from of produce co-op, offering the produce for free once a month, with a table outside, to anyone passing by . We asked for small donations, encouraging people to participate in feeding each other, as the donations went to buying more food. In 2018 we added started gardens and became a non-profit to expand our food distribution and growing gardens while still encouraging our neighbors to participate. New programs include education not just in growing food but proper preparation and addressing chronic illness, like diabetes and kidney disorders, through our Food As Medicine program.
