About Us

KEU was established in 2009 by Janice Carter as an expression of her passion for working with people, decorating and designing; while utilizing her technical and professional management skills acquired as an upper level manager within the federal sector.

How We Got Started

Kouture Expressions Unlimited was started out of my passion for decorating, designing, creativity and a desire to bring a new twist of specialty and personalized items to the Event industry thru poetry and personalized products. As a leader in management in the Federal government my attributes in leadership, organizing, team work, deadlines, timeliness, working with various budgets, listening skills, among others were positive attributes to bring into a field in which I have a passion and gifting.

I audit my expenses weekly; however, prior to creating the expense I do an assessment of the expense to determine if it is just a  want or a need.  (more) I audit my expenses weekly; however, prior to creating the expense I do an assessment of the expense to determine if it is just a  want or a need.

I started my business, Kouture Expressions Unlimited in 2012 after being in upper management with the federal government sector. In that role I learned valuable skills, such as, strategic thinking and planning, dealing with all types of people, space planning, record keeping, to name a few. However, I couldn't be creative. As an event planner, creativity is limitless. Building relationships is also the key to creating an experience for the clients that they will remember for a lifetime.

This has created a win/win situation for all parties involved. You can also network with event venues to provide the lighting for the venue or be used as a referral to potential clients. If you have a Facebook page, post pictures of your lighting used at various events or vignettes created by you that shows your creativity. The ambience of the lighting will always sell itself. Instagram is another free vehicle that you can use to showcase your lighting in different settings. The key is to put your work out there for people to see and the business will follow!

Create a free page on Facebook to showcase your work. Have people rate you from your page and provide feedback. (Check out my Facebook page, Kouture Expressions Unlimited). This will give potential clients a sense of who you are from the testimonials from others. Even when you are doing events for family and friends, take plenty of great pictures. Make sure you get pictures that show the true essence of your design skills and creativity. Always have an unexpected item to leave everyone in awe. Decorating is only one piece of being an event planner that is set apart from the rest... Personalized designs and Unique Creativity raises the bar. It doesn't have to be expensive or extravagant; but, it must be something that they don't see all the time. Once you start your business, sign up for free exposure on Google My Business. It will drive potentials clients your way. You also get to post pictures on Google My Business and it allows you to create a website which is great if you don't already have one. Allow your passion to shine through when you meet clients and no one will even know you are a "newbie."

I use a three prong approach: 1). It is important to get to know the potential client to determine if we are a good fit for each other, I've found it is a two way street; 2). Educating them in terms of what my business does. Most potential clients think it is just about decorating; never, realizing that my staff and I have to first develop a design concept that makes their event unique from others; Finally, 3). Mutual respect... great customer service starts and ends with mutual respect. There may be times when you have to agree to disagree; but, because of mutual respect you can work through anything. Ultimately, you both have the same goal... an event that will place an indelible footprint in their guests' hearts and minds forever! Finally, I provide a written contract for their signature and secure a deposit and payment schedule before any work begins.

I would highly recommend that you list your business on "Google My Business" It is free and allows to put pictures and videos. Potential clients love videos. I would put Children Theme Parties and Characters in the Services. Put your business on Yelp; it is widely used today. Have former clients put reviews on Yelp and Google my business. You don't have to upgrade on Yelp, if you keep current pictures and reviews, potential clients will seek you out. Finally, under Services put something unique that others in your industry don't do.
