 I got more referrals and business from groups where a membership fee was paid. I found quality business owners and representatives at meetings  and they paid the fee because they understood the value of belonging to an organisation that wasn't free. I never got a leads from groups that were free because most people that attend are broke and just looking to sell their products. Like they say you get what you pay for :)
