My accounting business got its start more than 30 years ago in an unlikely place — a toga party.

I was sitting next to the party host when he asked, “So, you’re an accountant?” I said yes. He followed up with, “Do you do taxes?” My response: “No… but I probably could.”

A few days later, we met at his business, and he became my first bookkeeping and tax client. Referrals from him — and then referrals from those referrals — helped grow my practice into what it is today.

There are no more toga parties, but I now work with several small businesses in various capacities. I’ve expanded into HOA tax work and currently prepare about 40 HOA tax returns annually, working with both a management company and independent associations.

The personal tax side of my practice is smaller by design. While some compare my fees to free filing options, clients who value experience, accuracy, and personalized service don’t hesitate.
