How We Got Started
After returning home from a photo safari to Kenya, Africa and spending the day with Mama Sarah Obama, Barack Obama's grandmother, she viewed my images and suggested that I show them to the world. Soon after I started my photography business.

That it is not a money maker. selling creative artwork is very sketchey. Yes, you do have sales, but relying on those sales to put food on your table isn't happening. Have you ever heard of the phrase "STARVING ARTIST", there is a lot to be said for that. I do it because it has been a passion of...

That it is not a money maker. selling creative artwork is very sketchey. Yes, you do have sales, but relying on those sales to put food on your table isn't happening. Have you ever heard of the phrase "STARVING ARTIST", there is a lot to be said for that. I do it because it has been a passion of mine, and I enjoy photography, but am I getting rich, NO. I know that this sounds pretty negative, but it is the truth.

The story of how I became a fine art photographer. After a 20 year relationship met its demise, my children bought me a three month stent on eHarmony. I responded to one in particular woman who was the owner of a wildlife safari company in Kenya. I emailed her and said sign me up for a safari trip. She asked if I was serious and I said yes because it had been on my bucket list for years. We communicated for a bit, I sent her a deposit, and we both tried to get others to join us, but that never happened. It ended up just being me, her, and Kamara (the driver) for a month throughout Kenya. About a week before my departure date, she asked me if I would like to meet President Barack Obama’s paternal grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama, and I responded,”absolutely." Halfway through our safari, I was to meet her in the town of Kogelo where I was the first American to visit since Barack took office in 2009. The African Press were there to record our all day visit. While there I was showing Mama Sarah my images that I had captured and she said, ”you have to show these to the world." So when I got home, I had 32 of my best images identically framed and started showing them at several venues. Directly after that there were several artists that got together and we opened a gallery in my home town of San Mateo -- and that’s how I became a fine art photographer. The rest is history. Ken

I went to Kenya Africa on a photo safari with a woman who owned the Photo Safari company that I met on eHarmony. We communicated for some time and then I signed up. She was very politically connected and Barack Obama had just been sworn in to office and 2009. Prior to leaving the states, she asked if I would like to meet Barack’s grandmother, Mama Sara Obama, and I said absolutely. After Mama Sara Obama looked at the images that I captured with my camera, in Swahili, she said I should show these to the world. When I got back to the states I have many of my images framed, put them in a gallery, and the rest is history. It was because of her that I became a Fine Art Photographer.

Hiring a reputable general contractor is key. Do your homework, get referrals. A good general contractor will have a good sub base, someone he/she can rely upon. A contractor that says he does it all, will more than likely be lacking proficiency in some areas. It is difficult enough to excel in one specified trade, but to cover them all, is rather unlikely. Go with the contractor who puts outagood product, and don’t be concerned about how many subs he uses, the end product is tell tale.
