I have a general idea of what others in my field who have been in practice for as long as I have charge, but it doesn't usually come up from a potential client who may be shopping for a lawyer. Since I work with much of the creative community and start ups, I try to be an alternative option to high-priced firms with the same level of experience and expertise so that there is an opportunity to a segment of that population to obtain counsel without breaking the bank. I am aware that my hourly is below market for my area and experience, and I work with the client on budget concerns and provide a good-faith estimate of what the immediate work would require, no large retainers if not called for. If the estimate or service description does not suit the client needs, then of course no hard feelings and best of luck. Thank you to all who have weighed in.
