I started out almost 45 years ago in the financial services industry & gradually started helping small to medium sized construction companies with everything from Workers Compensation audits to scheduling assignments for job sites to reviewing payroll to reviewing General Liability / Commercial Automobile Insurance policies to handling work comp & GL certs to helping owners evaluate the effectiveness of their staff to assessing the leadership via online assessements to helping improve the communication between team members, etc.
As I was growing up, back in Michigan, my father was in the construction trade, primarily a concrete man. I learned first hand how to work & listen & obey - NOT be lazy, argue, & disregard the boss' orders. I quickly learned I did NOT like working in the construction trades - rather, understanding how the business side worked. So, I started learning about weekly paychecks, taxes, fees, expenses, costs, gross profits, net profits, etc. From there I springboarded into understanding how jobs had to be "bid" - including overhead as well as profit. From there, I started learning about "private" versus "public" jobs & all the differences. Soon I was working in the construction industry as more of an "inside" (office) employee versus "in the field". I also began learning about communication styles, & how stress really affects everyone. From there, I started consulting with various construction and manufacturing companies, helping them with communication issues as well as employee retention.
