Digital Marketing can get overwhelming, especially when your customers feel they have 24/7 access to your brand and want immediate satisfaction. Consider a Facebook business page at first and allot time each day to keep up with your customers, make relevant posts, and see what your competitors are doing. Then, once you're comfortable with this level of interaction, you can start to consider other social media channels, digital advertising, etc. If it ever feels too overwhelming, or you just can't find the time to execute on your own, hire an expert.

This is the time to double down and increase their spend, resulting in increased reach and expanded customer base. All clients are acting so tentative right now, but this is the time where great brands can become legendary. No one ever became a legend by hanging back, with a wait-and-see attitude.

You can reach your core consumers for a fraction of traditional marketing/advertising/media costs. A word of warning, however - most brands are using statements such as, "in these unprecedented times..." or "in this challenging era" etc. way too much! Their messages are clouded with every other brand. Your message must stand out. Don't Zig, Zag!

Instead of panicking in a crisis situation, they will already have at least a partial contingency plan in place and can pivot faster than companies without one. Social media is a cost-effective and powerful way to continue and extend marketing efforts without breaking the bank, but the message must change to match the crisis. It's time to be as authentic as you can be by personifying your brand and the people behind it, not just sell product.

Usually crisis management is the last thing companies want to pay for, but it comes back to bite them in times like this. I can't tell you how many brands kept posting their usual, pre-scheduled social media content, instead of standing down, re-trenching and strategizing, once the pandemic started to really impact the United States. Sometimes it pays to be silent during a crisis versus turning off your customers completely due to poorly timed or inappropriate messaging.
