My goals when it comes to networking are to find parties with whom I may collaborate, either in terms of sharing referrals, consultation or just information. I usually enjoy my networking experiences and often learn a lot. Nothing however, beats the wonderful feeling I get when a new client says, "(So and So) recommended you". That tells me that I am getting myself out there. When I get a referral that is a close friend or family member of a colleague, that really honors me to know end.
