About Us

The Schneider Family relocated to the Shoals in late 2007 to escape the congestion and rat race that California has become. After 40+ years in the automotive service business, we thought we would try something other then auto service to keep busy. It was exciting meeting folks and living in the country and seeking out opportunities in under served areas of business. What we found out was one of the biggest under served areas is what we new best! So in late 2009 a small shop originally opened in 1967 Bruce Automotive Center, on Royal Ave. in East Flo. was reopened with Jim Schneider as it's operator. The intent was to offer professional service and repair for European models, as folks where driving at lest 75 miles for service. The name was later changed to Schneider Autohaus LLC. In Sept. 2013 a fire destroyed the business. Was able to reopen a month later to it's current location, 3711 Florence Blvd. Since then the "Haus" has been covered up with the best customers ever. They bring there Domestic and Asian cars as well. Call 256-712-5596 or visit us today!

How We Got Started

Born and raised in California. Life was filled with fun opportunities growing up, and seemed to be attracted to anything with wheels and interested in what makes them work. This was interrupted by serving four years in a Navy fighter squadron, (loved airplanes as well). Life performing aircraft maintenance on a Aircraft Carrier was rewarding. Learned a lot about the importance of proper maintenance and doing it right the first time. After my service in the USN I attended a two year Auto Tech trade college to round out my education, and became a automotive service professional. After over 40 years in the trade, the last 18 in business for myself, we relocated to Florence, Alabama to get away from overcrowding and traffic mess. When I discovered that there were no shops offering service for European imports, I knew I had to take advantage of this opportunity. Its been nothing but a unbelievable success since opening shop in late 2009. Thank You to all our great customers.

I always ask how they found me and most say my reviews on google was the reason, not how low or high the cost is. I continue this education by being totally up front with the cost and the entry diagnostic fee when they leave their vehicle for service. Every now and then a customer will say, "Can you do better on the price" my response usually is "if I were to lower my estimate it would indicate that I was overcharging them for the service". and that is not the case. That being said, The price is never right, but the job has to be.

Have a reputable shop (look for a AAA auto club approved shop) to do a preventive maintenance. They will make sure the cooling system, as well as all other systems, are ready for your Christmas vacation.   (more) Have a reputable shop (look for a AAA auto club approved shop) to do a preventive maintenance. It's worth at least what it would be worth as scrap metal. $750-$1200 depends on the price of scrap metal. (more) It's worth at least what it would be worth as scrap metal. $750-$1200 depends on the price of scrap metal.

Before doing this I spent the previous year researching my chosen market by asking everyone I came across, and asked, who serviced their BMW, Mini, MB, or VW (European makes). I found out that everyone's answer was either Huntsville, or Nashville, 75 to 150 miles away. Now this is a area that is majorly under served, which removes a major risk factor. For me my business is for me to lose, I believed that most would give me the opportunity to serve them for convenience of not having to travel a hour or more. My main job is keeping them coming back as regular customers.

Offer them a discount to pay promptly. If that doesn't work you may have to cut them loose.  (more) Offer them a discount to pay promptly. If that doesn't work you may have to cut them loose.

Make a point to contact them before lunch, they will be sitting at there desk thinking about all morning and never let them call you first. Put them at ease as soon as possible. When you don't communicate properly it just builds up frustration in your customers and won't take much to light them off. Keep in mind that proper communication from the start will identify bad customers as well.
