Coming from the commercial end of art, I've never had a problem with my prices, but many times the agencies are just happy to unload a job from their shoulders to yours...at any price. In fine art, it is quite different. The fact that your potential "clients" are black listing you says a bucketful. It says that you have a very good product. Seems you have tried to educate them to no avail. For me, it was so much easier when I could show my portfolio and meet face to face. Nowadays, with computers, that's just not possible for me. Maybe it is still a face to face situation for you, but if you are selling over the phone from your website, you really are between a rock and a hard place. Are your prices comparable to others in the field? Is there an agent or licensee that you could bounce some ideas off of. How long have you been in the business. I found that five or six years lets buyers know how serious you are as an artist. It's taken me that long just to meet people who may not want to purchase what I'm showing but are interested in commissioning you for a piece of art.
As for being a snob, the art world is full of snobs and critics. Believe in what you are doing and maintain your aesthetics.

I was told by an art director that working with Japanese companies was difficult. In recent presentations, the agency could never feel that there strategies were appreciated or even understood. Poker faces abound.
I was asked to create artwork for this one Japanese electronics company. I was asked to conform my comps with the designs for print and billboards. Bob, the art director, told me that if they have to explain their concepts to the client they'd be dead, so the art had to immediately convey the agencies concepts.
After some tight deadline sketches were approved, I delivered the eight layouts complete with my artwork to the agency. A few days later, I received a call from Bob who was just elated."Ben, we didn't say a thing! We just put your comp art up on the wall and waited. They said little but loved it!" Bought all eight concepts... you rock!"
Although it was not a first time client with the agency, it was a first time working with that art director. We worked together for many years. When he left one agency, he took me with him to other agencies. Knowing all the parameters of a project, asking the right questions and doing what ever it takes to let your client know that you are there with him or her 24/7 to help sell an idea is something clients will always remember.
