I show Moms the unconditional love their children have for them, through the family portrait. Through blogging the motherhood experience and sharing local businesses with similar target markets, I connect isolated Moms with a support system. I also run the #momreality project in an effort to push back against the fake perfection in social media, to encourage Moms to embrace the good, bad, and hilarious of the parenting experience.
In 2006, I worked at a ballistics photographer at APG's test center. When my first child was born, it killed me to leave her at daycare so I could go to work. I realized I could still use my camera by working for myself and still be with my baby during the day. Many years and more kids later, I've realized how isolating the motherhood experience can be. We are never alone, but we can be so lonely during those years in the trenches with babies and toddlers. Social media tells us that we are doing everything wrong- the internet claims to bring us together but it's actually isolating us more. We no longer have a tribe to lean on the way it was with our parent's generation. The more I shared my experiences, the more I realized that my problems and worries were normal, there wasn't anything wrong with me, and there were other people out there, just like me.
