Why would it be new? It still is the best way for companies to talk with customers. In spite of what companies think, bots are very unhelpful & annoying.

100% - It's all about the experience! Treat me well and I'll return.....treat me terribly and I'll tell everyone. (That is what happens today)
Definitely, customer service is almost a lost art. But people appreciate it so much. They need to know that they count and that they are important.

Interesting quote. Both customer service and marketing are complex and have many components. It may be an oversimplification, and a decrease in the value and importance of each, to reduce these to a one sentence thought. It would be nice and easy if customer service "is what differentiates one business from another."
This is new? Didn't mom teach you to play nice with the other kids in the sandbox? Having good manners (now called 'customer service' in business) is the best marketing strategy there is ~
Customer Service has ALWAY been a key part of marketing any business. It is the direct channel to your primary reason for being in business! It is great to realize this now, but if you are just coming to this then you are really lucky to still be in business.

Customer service is marketing your business. I personally do not like when I call a company and they give me all these other ways of stating my business to some computer or a link or an email before actully talking to me to see what the problem I have. Maybe I do not want to share it with a machine that records it. I would rather take a number call-back and wait for a return call rather use up my time on my cell phone. When a person talks to me in customer servce, I feel like that company is interested in me as a client. And yes, I do tell people that that such-a-such company that all they do is refer to a computer or put you on a long hold. They are marketing them selves for sure.
