Does anyone know if it is alright to leave some residue water in the pipe in subzero winter?
I drain most of water but leave some water in lines connected to toilet, kitchen sink, what would happen if temperature drops below freezing? there is no heat inside the house. I am thinking there is room for residue water to expand, so it should not be a problem, just want to confirm.

If now one is currently living in the home it could be a problem. one of the first things i would remember is that pipe insulation is very important at this time of year. As long as the water is dripping out of the faucet it should be fine. Because i don't know if anyone is there i would turn the water off at the meter.
If the heat is off over the winter it's best to drain all the water, including toilets and indoor pipes. I've personally seen a toilet tank freeze and crack during a cold snap at a vacant house, which lead to water damage and an insurance claim.

Just to clarify. I am an energy expert. My focus is on gas and electric utilities.
We don't deal with plumbing so I have no idea.
No heat means danger of pipes freezing inside.
There should be a slight drip so water does not freeze in place...
