No online, No out of town. It is either local or we don't get it to put under the tree. With 27 grandkids and 3 great-grandkids, I will support my local business owners. And I encourage my team to do the same thing. I have agents all over the world and they have local economies they must support. Shopping locally to me is still a form of giving back to the people who keep us in business year-round.
As a small business owner (just me!) I try and support my local businesses as much as possible. I want them to stay in business! I also try and create gifts that are experiences. Wine tasting and tickets to a local museum or garden. Dinner at a local restaurant and a movie. Popcorn and the latest DVD release they are interested in. Craft classes in their local area for a date night out. It's fun and interesting to try and not repeat the previous year.
We shop local year round. One day of shopping local will not keep a small business operating all year long. To create long term, consistent jobs, small businesses need on going business. I’m a local chamber member and we do what we can to support other chamber members. If we need any goods or services, we shop Chamber Members first.
I have a unique product, custom picture framing..I can do things that you can't find online or box store. Plus your prized artifact or art doesn't leave the community and sent somewhere else to be handled by who knows who. This 'elf ' makes gifts that last a lifetime during the Christmas season. Oh yeah I do shop local as often as I can!

As an artist, published writer and photographer, I have donated paintings and copies of my books to silent auctions, and my photographs to the writers' group I belong to for inclusion in their anthologies. We have some fabulous markets and fairs as we have an abundance of artistic talent in our area.
Ten plus years ago after most of my children were grown and gone, I started cash gifts. Especially with ten grandchildren, me not a clue what to gift them, any form of cash gifting always works best. Alternatively gift cards are great ideas and mailable too. You see folks, my family is spread from the east coast to the west coast only meeting up annually for Christmas but I live in the frozen tundra aka Des Moines Iowa. Here are a few of my electronic friendly methods for dropping those cash gifts: CashApp, Zelle, Paypal and Venmo. Before those I’d get Cashiers cheques which are unheard of these days but I think you can still get money orders (just be sure to acquire and mail off those options a week before the holidays). Christmas is not the same as when I was a kid. It has become a commercialized event and the meaning of Christmas has been removed.
It is unfortunately young children today will only see it as a time to get new stuff regardless if they were good or bad all year!
Likely I will try to buy some gifts in the local stores to help support our local economy.
