How did you become a new bookkeeper?

After becoming advanced certified in QuickBooks online, I was still nervous about payroll. Um... this is going to sound like a marketing pitch, but it's really not. I discovered Gusto's People Advisor program (https://gusto.com/partners/r/j...). They trained me in their payroll platform, employee benefit packages, and Human Resource tools and support as well as how to integrate all of this into QuickBooks. 

Prior to this, payroll had frightened me, but after becoming a People Advisor, I'm much more confident in my abilities as a bookkeeper, and it's reflected in my work.

It is not just about how you classify your income and expense. It generates you financial statements. Your financial statements represent your business’ financial position. All lenders, investors want to see it. Some new business owners do bookkeeping by themselves but they have to explore, educate themselves and join some networking to learn from others. If your business is growing pretty fast, you don’t have time for quick adjustments if you are new to debits and credits.

I stumbled onto a program call Bookkeeper training school taught by Kristin Ingram. I work at a daycare and i'm just getting over having to be told what to do when to do it and being abused by the children. so when this training popped up i was like hey i could actually do this! i have 4 years accounting background already and i excelled in my accounting classes with above 100% grades in them. I think this is my calling. I always wanted to own my own business but never could point it out to what. but with soul searching and this program i found it and can't be any happier :)

I have an accounting background. I've been doing this work since I was 16 years old...started on ledger paper! I see all of these programs as well but with NO accounting background I would be very worried about someone doing my books that took a few online classes.

I have taken the Quickbooks Online ProAdvisor course and completed certification. I am now reaching out through my network for my first client so I can utilize my certification.

I was a tax consultant for 2 years and came across Bookkeeper Launch by Ben Robinson. The course is amazing, I already knew the bookkeeping side of things but really valued the part where he teaches you how to run a virtual business. I've always had that entrepreneurial spirit and that course gave me the confidence to put myself out there.

I actually have one of these coaching programs and almost all of our 15 coaches have changed careers into this. Only a handful of us have Master's degrees or prior experience. 

I took a very indirect route to starting my own bookkeeping/tax business. For decades I worked for accountants that owned the recreation business I managed so I did all of the payroll and general ledger tasks for them. Then I in turn trained various office personnel on QuickBooks and PeachTree. I taught the managers of seven locations to make decisions based on their respective P&L's. When I decided it was time to retire I started a bookkeeping business. QuickBooks Pro Advisor training is the way to go, although I have received very valuable training from Seth David, Hector Garcia, Veronica Wasek, Ben Robinson, Alicia Pollack, Dan DeLong. Look them up, they will teach you what you need to know!

I became a  bookkeeper through a masterclass called Bookkeepers Training School.  It is taught by a CNA with 18 + years of experience.  She runs her own bookkeeping business on top of a tax firm.  She also teaches at a nearby college in accounting.
