I have had the same book keeper for over 10 years and inherited her from from the man who trained her when he passed. Knew her capabilities and we got a long well. Very important in developing trust. I am incorporated and what she did for me and her other incorporated customers is develop a relationship with a forensic accountant. This individual does my year end and I have absolutely no problems with the CRA. If you are incorporated, in my experience, you year ends should be done by an accountant if you want to be hassle free. How you pick one? Ask around, google and interview.
Hi there. My business is too small for that yet...but I have my Mom who took all that up and is willing to Teach me her knowledge in this area. ...although I have been doing my work for 30 years now...I know this & that here n there...but I'm fortunate to have my Mom here to show me the ways!!! 👌👍❣
I our case my business partner had a contact that he knew already. He does our financials and taxes and we do our own bookkeeping. For my personal company my financial advisor recommended a fellow.
Qualifications, contextual questions about how they would handle situations - give them instructions about how you want to work with them then evaluate their answers relative to that, FIT - can you work with them

I would absolutely agree with the previous responses; reputation and referrals are golden. I would also have to say that I look for experience and specialties. I want to work with someone who is an "expert" in their field. Personality, does come into play too; after all it's always better if I actually like the person I'm working with; but this is secondary to expertise.
