If the stylists make commission off the retail, who typically recommends the products?
I would think if the stylists make commission it is up to them to suggest the sale not the salon coordinator, or am I wrong?

The stylist should be in charge of the retail portion as well as the service portion. Stylist needs to be using, educating and recommending products to the guests. It's part of the experience, and they should be compensated for that sale. If the stylist is lacking in the retail portion, they need education on the products they are using and how to properly position and sale them. So, yes, the stylist should be the one recommending and selling to clients.
I guess I'm a little confused by the question. Why would there be any question who recommends the proper products? If the stylist working on a client commission or not, the stylist should always be the one making the recommendations.
The staff has it really easy! They simply need to use and explain the product; most clients will follow the recommendation of a well trained professional...
I gather you all are PM Exclusive so, I cannot go further! Hope it all works out for you! It sounds like a little more emphasis needs to go into their training and you'll see a significant increase in up front sales!!! Thumbs up! I
The stylist
Everyone on your staff which includes the stylists; should be promoting your brand... Long term customers should also be assisting through customer satisfaction and client referral opportunities!

Whoever is with the client having her hair need discussion may take advantage of suggestion the perfect product/s the client needs. Team work.
it's completely the hairdresser's responsibility to recommend a product.
It's part of a stylist's job to help their client get the best out of their hair by recommending products.
This is spa biz 101. The stylist MUST make the recommendation to receive the compensation for the product sale. I would suggest some professional salon sales training for your staff. There should be a natural flow to the process, not a stop and turn into a sales pitch thing. Recommending as they are using the product on the client is best
We try to make it easy on the receptionist who is checking the client out by having the stylist or colorist who recommended the product walk the client up to the desk with the product. That way they know exactly who to give the credit to. Unless it is a product they have bought before, it is saved in there history along with who recommended it.
